Working on my new persona

Since I’m jumping back into this SCA and Larping world, I want to work on a totally new persona. I want to go towards more of a Captain Alatriste look and feel for the character.
I’ve read a few books and was taken by the character and the mood of the time period. Looking at some of the movie shots I love the rough and tumble look of the Captain, a no nonsense professional soldier. Looking at the garb, we are looking at basic linens and leather, nothing too fancy. I like functional clothing, something that can take a tumble and still look good in court.
Also with the advent of my rapier and dagger fencing classes, the jerkin that I will be getting back with fit perfect with this timeframe. I do need to modify it a bit to make it rapier armor, I still have a lot of the leather that was used in its initial construction; I’m also going to make a leather gorget as well. I’m still looking for my gloves; I can’t seem to locate them anywhere!
So I might need to make a new purchase of gauntlets, fencing gloves, and a new helm, man do I need money. I have to breath life into our old sewing machine so I can start making garb again.

Larping: it's a work out...

I am sore
Nocturne is a Larping group that meets in New Jersey about once a month and is run by a group of friends of mine that include Bill, Linda, and Joe. Now I’ve been role playing and have belong to reenactment groups for many years now, but I never played in a fantasy larp before. My son was itching to play ever since we had some lengthy conversations with Linda who is one of the directors of the group. So yesterday I gathered all my bedding, garb, food, and weapons and drove down to a Boy Scout camp in Allamuchy, NJ with my son. Oh course we went during a monsoon that was sweeping through the East coast, my luck was holding out as always, bad, bad, bad. We were going to NPC for the entire event, basically playing monsters for the varies stories or mods that were being run for the event.
Jarrett and I played Demons, Were Rats, Goblins, evil mercenaries, and Stone Golems. As demons we went out into the town and harassed the players with claws and fire balls, as evil mercenaries we were accused of murdering and butcher entire towns and poisoning healers, and as Goblins we pretty much ruled.

Joe played some really tough Characters including a huge demon that took the entire town to finally destroy.
A couple of things of note, Jarrett and I as demons were attacking a cabin and a PC (Player character) walk past us coming from the bathroom with no weapons and knocked on the door to get into said cabin, we didn’t attack because he was so confident we thought he was one of us (he had horns, a player demon PC) His friend promptly through him a sword and he destroyed us, he looked down at us afterword and said “I can’t believe you guys didn’t attack me!”
The fighting was very confusing for me, I am use to fighting one and one to win, mostly an exchange of blows and we are done, but in these rules, you hit to do a set of damage ranges, just like in D&D. So you swing your sword and scream 3 damage and if it hits you subtract this damage from your hit points. But as an NPC, you are usually attacked by a lot of players, easily a three to one ratio. So you kind of feel like this:I did get my exercise in with all the running, fighting, hiking up hills, and non-stop movement from 10 am till 3 am last night.
All in all a great time was had and I will be going back to play and kill with my new friends at Nocturne.

Reclaiming the blade, or back to the lists for me…

So I made it to Aethelmearc practice last night for rapier and dagger class, it was a blast! It’s been about ten years since I’ve fought in any kind of list, heavy or otherwise. Right now I’m working with Po Silvertop "the Rogue", also known as Scott, a friend sitting across from me at work here at Network Solutions.
It’s funny it’s been such a long time since I even thought of the S.C.A. and here in the wilds of Hazleton Pennsylvania I’m sucked back into the society because of a cube mate from work. Scott spent many a day telling me about the live steel class that meets in Forty Fort, PA, and I finally broke down last night. Now most of my skills are martial arts based, 8 years of Judo, 2 years of karate, 9 years of Kendo, and 15 years fighting in the S.C.A., I did some fencing at events and in school, but mostly epée and foil.
This class was rapier, epée, dagger, and parry object. It’s closer to real steel then I’ve ever really done. The meeting was pretty big, the class being held at a meeting hall in the basement.

Over 25 people did take the field for fencing and heavy list fighting, my friends Kevin and Andrea did show for the class. Kevin is now doing heavy list fighting with great sword, Andrea is fencing epée. My old body did remember some moves, I even surprised Scott with my fencing skills, I gave some pointers to the heavy fighters and had an over all great time. I will be attending every Tuesday for sure…

Armory of General Knoxx

Well of course I downloaded the DLC for my X-box 360, and yes, I spent the entire weekend with my buds kicking the crap out of the Crimson Lance, and yes I did use the glitch to plunder the Armory 5 times over. But the best news is MODDED GUNS ARE GONE!!!!! Yes, the new update gets ride of all those crazy cheater weapons that those snot nosed kids used to kick my butt with. Now they just need to plunder the Armory to get cool weapons… well before the next patch!

It so rules....
