Gacked from Stephan Botha.
Rumors have been spreading the interwebs about a new Special Infected for Left 4 Dead 2 dubbed The Jockey. Rumor turns to fact at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle. The Jockey, which looks like a crossbreed between The Tank and The Spitter, pounces on its victim's back and then starts to skullf**k the crap out of him/her. All of this happens while The Jockey takes control of the Survivor's movement and can "steer" the unlucky bastard away from the rest of the team. Team up with The Spitter and this lethal combo can mean the end for the Survivors.
PAX09 showed a lot more than we hoped for and it seems Valve is listening to the fans when it comes to the things we want most. For instance A Desert Eagle. The Desert Eagle takes out the infected with a single shot to the head and it sounds awesome. To boost it a bit, you can also unlock laser-sights for it even though, we already have this unlocked in Left 4 Dead 2, it's still a nice addition.
Next up, you can see a nice close-up of the Spitter in action. Just like The Smoker, she leaves a trail behind her to make her easier to spot. She's downright disgusting and I'm pretty sure this will give me all sorts of nightmares in the not so distant future. She's definitely Tank's coyote ugly.
PAX09 was also the stage for the reveal of Left 4 Dead 2's new campaign: Dark Carnival. Dark Carnival places our heroes in a Circus/Carnival from Hell. Battling clowns and the likes will surely be an unsettling experience for people who suffer from Coulrophobia. The Campaign looks great so far with so many props you would expect from a carnival. Some might argue and complain, that a carnival and a mall are things that all zombie games/movies should have. I wish we had this in the current version of Left 4 Dead. Watch the video for a Carnival Crescendo in action. Can you find the Easter Egg in this poster?
Finally, we get to the part of the guitar. I was pretty amazed. My first thoughts were, why a guitar? Then I remembered that the campaigns play off in the Southern United States and music is big part of the South. It only makes sense to smack a zombie in the face with a decent piece of equipment. It seems that Valve didn't really want to show this to the players. In the video, you'll see the player ignore the Guitar and quickly moves on. I can't wait for the Guitar. I am very curious to hear the sound it makes when you smash the base into the side of a zombie's skull. Twang!
The addition of a baseball bat which will be a melee weapon exclusive to those who pre-order the game from select retailers can also be seen in this video. The baseball bat does a lot of damage and completely decapitates the head off the unfortunate brain-muncher who comes in contact with it. Lots of gore and awesome sound effects. Perfect.
There you have it. Loads of new stuff for Left 4 Dead 2.
